A Celebration of California

Jonathan Art Foundation's Annual Auction and Fundraiser

March 25, 2017

The Jonathan Art Foundation is already in the planning stages for next year’s elegant evening of fine California wines, gourmet local cuisine and fine art for its annual auction fundraiser. On March 25th guests can, as always, expect luxurious items and events available through the live and silent auctions, including cruises and an African safari, fine hotels, art and photography, distinguished wines and spirits, golf and sporting events. This fundraiser supports the Foundation’s broad-based art and education mission, as well as the preservation and display of the art of the Jonathan Club and the Jonathan Art Foundation collections.

At this event we will be celebrating California’s world-class wine and cuisine, and the vast, verdant landscapes that allow them to grow. We are so privileged to live in close proximity to farms that grow nearly every item on your dinner plate, from almonds and avocados to tomatoes and figs, and a mild winter that allows for year-round farmer’s markets and for the farm-to-table movement to flourish.

Those rolling hillsides, roaring seascapes, dusty deserts and majestic Sierras had, and continue to have, a powerful emotional impact on the painters of these landscapes, as evidenced by our paintings in the Town Club. Upon his first arrival in the Bay Area town of Saratoga, painter Theodore Wores wrote, “We were quite overpowered by the beauty of this magnificent spectacle…Those square miles of tapestry of blooms were a wonderful revelation to me, and the hillsides covered with various orchards, with the distant mountain vistas and blue hills for background, suggest endless possibilities for picture-making.”* You can almost smell the cherry blossoms in the groves he spoke of each time you view his Saratoga series in our collection.

SAVE THE DATE! This event will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Jonathan Town Club. We hope you will join us as we luxuriate in California and all its beauty!
