As the Jonathan Art Foundation gears up for its Circles of Support events in 2019, we’d like to take a look back at this past year’s activities to show you the benefits of membership. This year, we hope to repeat last year’s substantial increase in members!
January is L.A. Arts Month, and our Circles members were again treated to tickets to the L.A. Art Show with passes to Opening Night Premier Party, compliments of the art fair’s organizers. Later that month, we enjoyed a docent tour and private reception at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. Also in January we brought in nationally renowned plein air painters to capture the sights and moods of the Beach Club, after which we invited them back to a reception we hosted in the Catalina Room. We sipped wine, watched the sun set through the windows, and sold a number of their works to our guests at premarket prices. Mark your calendars for Friday, January 25th, as we reprise this complimentary event.
In February, to commemorate JAF’s 30th anniversary, we hosted an elegant wine and hors d’oeuvres reception honoring all who have served these past years as our President. JAF founding President Paul Chevalier gave remarks on his early impressions of the art at the Club, and current President Arlene Honbo presented commemorative gifts to her predecessors. We quickly followed that up on March 24th with our highly anticipated gourmet dinner and auction, Celebration of California. Silent and live auction items included fine wine and spirits, luxury items, fine art, museums and sports events, reciprocal club stays, and many more.
After winning the coveted Chili Cook-Off Judges Choice award at the Jonathan Beach Club's annual Labor Day festivities, the autumn season commenced with an exclusive art tour on Catalina Island. JAF’s highest level Circles donors were invited to this small group tour, as we were personally escorted through the Catalina Island Museum and private collection of Mr. Roy Rose. He is the grandnephew of the famous artist Guy Rose and has a comprehensive collection of Rose’s works as well as the best view of Avalon Harbor from his living room!
The year was rounded out with a free tour of the Laguna Art Museum, for which the whole Circles membership was invited. Curator Dr. Deborah Solon so generously volunteered her time to walk us through the current exhibition, where one of our paintings is currently displayed.
