About Us
The Jonathan Art Foundation is a non-profit organization whose public charitable purpose is to acquire and exhibit outstanding artworks which focus primarily on Southern California artists and history, and to maintain such works and books as a resource for use by scholars. This website furthers that mission by providing public access to the Foundation’s significant collection of early California plein air art and other of its significant holdings. The Jonathan Art Foundation’s office is in the Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles, where much of the Foundation’s collection is displayed. The Foundation oversees the fine art collection of the Jonathan Club as well. The two collections have a similar tonal valuation and are displayed intermixed in the Jonathan Club, with ownership of individual works identified.
Founded in 1986, the Jonathan Art Foundation is a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) charitable organization (tax ID #95-4095291) whose primary purpose is the acquisition of art, its preservation, maintenance, repair, cataloging and display for the benefit of others, and the Jonathan Club is a private club organized for social and recreational purposes.
