Lincoln Mayne (b. 1971)
Inspired by Dada's core tenets, the rejection of logic, and the embrace of the absurd, Lincoln Mayne makes visible his interest in how simple actions, spur profound shifts in otherwise common experiences. Through awareness of materials, explored over a 25-year career, the artist choreographs a dance between the boorish and the whimsical to poetically communicate something new.
Mayne has maintained a dedicated interest in ceramics as an historical and ancient medium. His works manifest undercurrents of social conditions, which nods gently toward the roles of spectacle and entertainment as historical diversions. Mayne’s practice is underpinned by an embrace of humor, and considers the position of the artist as akin to that of the court jester.
