Enhancing the Club Art Collections

2019 has been an exciting year for the Jonathan Art Foundation. We entered the year with a highly successful annual auction and fundraiser last spring and set out to find and acquire the right artists and pieces to grow and enhance the art at the Jonathan Club. In looking back over this year our hopes were realized severalfold.

Anna Hills, "Desert Gold"

The success of our fundraiser and the generous support of JAF Circles of Support members enabled us to add significant artists to our collection. In April we acquired Desert Gold by Anna Hills (1882-1930) with the generous support of the Betty and Richard Oxford Trust. Two exciting contemporary art pieces were added: Claes Oldenburg’s (b. 1929) Sneaker Lace in Landscape–Line State was acquired by the Club, and with a generous donation by Elizabeth Van Denburgh in honor of her mother Betty Van Denburgh, JAF added Andy Warhol’s (1928-1987) screenprint, Sunset, to its collection. Our most recent acquisition is Poppies and Lupines by John Marshall Gamble (1863-1957), a truly rich and beautiful painting. Both of our facilities benefited with the contemporary pieces finding their home at the Jonathan Beach Club and with the Hills and Gamble housed at the Jonathan Town Club.

Andy Warhol, "Sunset"

The Boards of the Jonathan Art Foundation and the Jonathan Club are committed to the care and the growth of our combined world-class art collections; collections that would not be possible without the financial support of the community.

JAF deeply appreciates the support of all those who attended our auction and those who either publicly or anonymously made generous donations to acquire specific pieces – THANK YOU!

John M. Gamble, "Poppies and Lupines"

As you and your family enjoy the use of the Town and the Beach facilities, stop and take in the art. Our collection is truly museum quality and it is there to give us all joy, entertainment and a respite from our daily routines. Come to our Celebration of California gala which will be held March 21, 2020 at the Town Club and support JAF. This is the main annual fundraising event for the Foundation and the funds we raise are vital for the care and growth of the collection. Please come and be part of the legacy.
